2 Weeks 3 Days

James and Evelyn are over 2 weeks old now! Yippee!

Since the last post things have been good. The first few nights, well week I guess were difficult. Getting to know them, and them us. The c-section ended up being a breeze recovery wise. I took my medications for the first day I was home only and I feel wonderful. If it wasn’t for the incision care (cleaning/ointment) I wouldn’t really know that I’d had one. However, I was on restrictions for stairs so that meant we’ve been camping out in our lower level the first 2 weeks.

But, Saturday night we moved the kids upstairs to their room for the night. It was nice to sleep in our own bed again and not a pull out. Though I think that we should have put the kids in there earlier in the day so they could adjust to all the new surroundings. James ended up being very interested in all the sights and sounds. Evelyn went to sleep a bit easier.

James got a bit of jaundice after their appointment at a few days old. So he spent several days on the bili blanket getting that number down.

Father’s Day was a good day though, he got off the blanket, got to the 5lb mark which meant he was out of his carbed. He also lost his umbilical cord! Evelyn lost hers on Sunday the 24th. Hers was hanging on by a thread, but the pediatrician said to keep moving it around to help it fall off and it did. We also took our first outing with them, a trip to Target for some supplies.

We took them for their first walk thru the neighborhood on -I think Wednesday. Our neighbors and far away neighbors on our walking path came running out to see the babies. It was fun, I didn’t realize we were that noticed. It’ll be fun to build small relationships with them as we walk that neigborhood thru the years. One woman has 15 year old twin daughters so maybe she’ll be a resource.

The babies are settling into a sleeping pattern which is nice. They lay down most nights around 10/11pm and sleep till around 1am, feed again and then sleep till around 5am. It allows Mom and Dad 3/4 hour chunks of sleep. Mostly this is good for Dad who then is able to help at the 1am feeding since I can sleep during the day if needed. Though last night Evelyn was hungry more frequently. James slept a good chunk of time last night.

The bouncers, we just started using them Thursday-have turned out to be WONDERFUL both babies love to be in them and the peditrician recommended letting James sleep in his for his acid reflux. So we are utlizing this much more now.

We had two appointments Friday. One for me and the twins with the OB/GYN and then one for the twins with their peditrcian.

My incision is healing wonderfully and I can drive again which is lovely. I still am restricted for *heavy* lifting but I’ll see the Dr. again in 4 weeks for the normal post partum checkup. I have to say I’ll actually miss seeing him. He’s been such an amazing Dr. The first thing he said when he walked in was “Your flying solo today? I don’t think I’ve ever seen you alone.” :) James has been at every appointment since the beginning. I said “Well, James is out in the waiting room with the babies.” He wished I had brought them in, I was worried it’d be crowded, but they came along as I knew that he wanted to see them. Plus I wasn’t yet cleared to drive.

I’m very happy that as of this morning (Monday) I only have 7 more of the 52 lbs I gained during the pregnancy to lose. Granted this doesn’t mean my stomach looks like I lost that much, I’ll have to work on that of course but the # is down, which was a concern of mine. I certainly didn’t like seeing that # on the scale. But alas it really was all babies.

Later James & Evelyn saw their Dr. for their 2 week checkup.

Evelyn weighed in at 6lbs 2oz. She’s growing perfectly, she gained 3oz over the previous 5 days and that is right on target. I am now on demand nursing her, and she doesn’t need anymore supplements. Unless of course we’d find that she’s not nursing as effectively or if she looks hungry after a nursing session or for time sake, ect. But 99% of the time she lets us know when she’s hungry and nurses very well.

James weighed in at 5lbs 1oz. He is lagging a bit. He only gained 1oz Sunday-Friday so over 5 days. He’s been having some troubles with spitting up and being really unconsoable for hours on end. I was up with him almost 5 hours straight one night. Turns out he’s got acid reflux. So he’s on some medication for that which has helped already and he only’s had two doses. He however is on a special formula that is higher calorie to try to get some weight on him. As a result of his being smaller his mouth is quite small and he’s not getting as much out of nursing as he should, as he grows this will change but for now he nurses 20 mins and gets a bottle. Hopefully when we see the Dr. again this Friday he’ll be up more in weight and we can start to cut back on the formula and increase the nursing.

James’ mom Susie went home on Saturday.  She was able to stay with us 4 weeks, and wonderful having her here. I’m so thankful she was understanding of my/our needs especially as it relates to my not using much of her help-I’m thankful she was here if needed but for me I needed to dive in and get things underway for myself as I’m flying solo from here on out. Hopefully she enjoyed her stay just as much as we did having her and that she knows how much it meant that she was here.

Saturday afternoon we took the kids on a mini outing. We ran the carbed back to the hospital and had hoped we’d run into some of the nurses. We didn’t. Then we ran to Menards (hardware store) to pick up some shelving for our basement. We have too much stuff for these kids and needed to organize. Then we ran to Target for some misc things we needed. The kids really did wonderfully. They are just a precious blessing.

I hope to get some photos into the gallery today, and I’m dying to take more of them. Seems like they are always eating or sleeping and I hate to distrub them when they are sleeping. But, now it’s time for James’ bottle and Daddy James will be home in about a half hour to an hour for lunch.

Quick Update from the Hospital

A quick post.  I finally have a minute to do something :)

Summary, Kam needed to be induced on Thursday night because the kids were growth restricted.  Meaning they were not as big as they should be because there is no more room.

About 24 hours of labor later they were born.  Evelyn Cora, 5lbs 11ozs, born one minute before her little brother, James Mitchell, 4lbs 15ozs.

Eveyln is currently under close watch, she’s been having troubles breathing possibly due to underdeveloped lungs.  Latest we heard was she is showing good improvement, and is slowly getting on her way.  Too early to tell though.

James is doing fine, sitting in an incubator due to his size, he is having trouble keeping temperature.
