Planting
October 21st, 2009
The kids & I have been spending quite a bit of time outside lately. Sunday we were outside raking and playing in the leaves, putting up the toys for the winter and moving around somethings. I almost went back in for the camera, but figured we’d have more days to play. Now I’m not so sure, with all this rain that’s here and coming yet!
Evelyn got the playing in the leaves right away without my showing her. She just started walking thru them, and that was fun so she laid down in them, and threw them up in the air at her own face, giggling.
James, he followed her suit after a little bit of watching.
We made a leaf pile at the bottom of the swing set slide and slid down into them, giggling, then I pulled them up and out. Laughing.
The next day we were out working on the side of our garage. When we bought the house it was full of hostas. They’ve grown in the 5 years we’ve lived here and we never really liked them to begin with. THe electric company had asked to cut down a tree in our front yard that kept growing into the power lines, and they gave us a voucher for the landscaping place in return. We never quite knew what to do with it, we didn’t want another tree in the same location.
And the voucher was expiring at the end of this year. So the kids & I went looking for something to buy. Even it if was just mums.
We spent over 2 hours there, just walking around checking everything out. James tugged our wagon around and Evelyn would sometimes help push from the back, or she’d help me check out the shrubs and perennials. Touching the flowers and anything else she could get her hands on.
We picked up around 35 plants, and a bunch of bulbs, a few mums.
We dug out the hostas, they were much help, getting their hands dirty with me and trying to shovel.
The next day we planted. James again was particularly helpful, trying to dig holes with the shovel and then when he spotted me using the trowel to get one of the plants out of it’s container he picked one to try to do such to also.
Our accomplishment;
Then, they needed a bath. But they had fun.
I’ve been sewing lately. My friend Jean gave me a bunch of her scraps, and the multiples club has an event coming up that’s a fundraiser for them, that I bought a table at to sell.
Evelyn seemed to stake claim to the first one.
James is all about being on the stool at the counter lately and helping. It’s cute, but we’ve had to instill a rule of keeping it in a specific spot or he’s all over the sink playing in water or putting the stool on my toes whilst I’m cutting up dinner or whatever.
